The 2012 edition of the Mohegan Pequot Model Railroad Club’s summertime railfan adventure saw a few changes in the annual itinerary along with some of the usual trip hot spots. The trip started with the typical 12 hour trek out to Fostoria, OH. With the late arrival, the club took a quick trip down to the Iron triangle to see a few trains before calling it a day. The second day started at Fostoria and then we took our usual trip out to Deshler, OH, for an afternoon bar-b-que. Traffic was good with some foreign road power sightings along with some unusual equipment – like a caboose – on several of the trains. The crew finished the day back in Fostoria and stayed until the sun went down.

After one last visit trackside in Fostoria on the start of our third day, the crew spent the day back on the road to Altoona, PA. The group arrived in the late evening and snuck in some time down at the Altoona train station. On the fourth day, instead of the usual trek to the Curve and Cresson, the group started back east with stops in Lewistown and Johnstown to catch the action on the former PRR Middle Division. The weather was great and the group was able to snag a bunch of photos. By late afternoon, the group was on the move again to Enola, PA, and the famed Rockville Bridge where the crew would welcome the stars while watching the trains pass over this engineering landmark.

For the final day of the trip, the crew decided to visit a few of the railroad museums located in Pennsylvania. The morning stop was in Strasburg, PA, which is home to the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania. This is a wonderful museum which the club has visited a few times in the past and some of the new members enjoyed the stop. In the afternoon, the club headed north to Hamburg, PA, which is home to the Reading Railroad Museum. The club was offered a tour of the grounds and was able to look over all the equipment which the museum had on display.

All in all, the club had a great trip. Make your reservations now if you want to join in on the 2013 edition!
