Over the weekends of November 4 and 5, and November 11 and 12, the Mohegan Pequot HO Scale layout was set up for display at the Essex Steam Train as part of the “Day Out With Thomas” Celebration. This great event brings children and families from all over the northeast to see a real life “Thomas the Tank Engine”, who is the star of the children’s show “Thomas and Friends”. Our display, situated in the old factory building adjacent to the Essex Station, is just one of the many attractions for the Thomas faithful to enjoy. With over 5000 spectators per day, this event is always a lot of fun. This year’s layout was 42’ x 20’ for the first weekend, and then was expanded to 58’ x 20’ for the second weekend. The expansion was as a result of adding John Waller’s new 16’ module to the layout, as well as using modules which we brought to Essex following the Willimantic Show, which coincided with the first weekend of the Thomas display. Supporting two shows at once was a new experience for the club, but it went off without a hitch. (Click here to read about the Willimantic Show). At the conclusion of the show, the layout was partially disassembled. Some of the modules would be left at Essex for our upcoming Holiday Display, which coincides with the Polar Express trains run by the Essex Steam Train, while the rest were loaded in the red trailer for use at the upcoming show at the Westerly Armory in Westerly, RI. As always, we’re already looking forward to next years Thomas Show.
