On June 27, 2004, the Mohegan Pequot Model Railroad Club displayed our HO Scale layout in part of the old train station in downtown Norwich. As part of the Norwich Heritage Festival, the club set up a small, 20’x16’ layout in the partially refurbished train station. The station was final stop for a Providence and Worcester excursion train from Putnam to Norwich.
Upon the trains arrival, we were inundated with throngs of onlookers who had disembarked from the train for lunch and shopping in the downtown area. Even though the layout was one of the smallest displays we’ve put together in recent years, it was very well received. When the excursion departed late in the afternoon, there were still plenty of spectators enjoying the display. All in all, it was an enjoyable display, and was in support of the revitalization effort for downtown Norwich - the type of effort the club tries to support.
