Every winter, the Big Railroad Hobby Show presented by the Amherst Railway Society at the Big E in West Springfield, MA, is the Mohegan Pequot Model Railroad clubs largest display of the year. This year was be no exception. As has been the case for the last several years, the club displayed its HO, N, On30, and G scale layouts, during the weekend of January 26 and 27. This year, the club added a fifth modular layout, a S-scale layout. Visitors to the show saw the continued progress on the large scale renovations happening with the HO scale layout which began in the summer of 2006.
"2007 has been quite a productive year for the club. The new modules introduced at last year's show are all progressing nicely, and I enjoyed seeing the layout all set up at the Big Railroad Hobby Show,” said Dan DeLany, President of the Mohegan Pequot Model Railroad Club. He continued, “I am very pleased, impressed, and proud of the work by our members over the last two years and was excited to see the benefits of the new module work sessions at this year's show. This year is the culmination of the last 3-4 years of work with the layout becoming progressively better, and this year will be no different.”
Last year, 8 new module sets consisting of 30 module sections made their debut at the show. These modules have seen a lot of activity and looked substantially more complete than just one short year ago. The layout was setup in our usual U-configuration and featured 55 module sections in total, filling in a 42’ x 72’ area. A club information table was also set up in front of the HO layout which included pictures, information sheets, and a TV with a slideshow about the club.
This year also featured the debut of the club's newest layout, a portable S-scale layout. This layout has been constructed by club member and avid S-scaler Dave Alley. "Dave has put a lot of effort into bringing a new scale to the club. His layout, while still under construction, shows the wide range of talents and interests within the club," said Dan Delany. In addition to the HO and S scale layouts, the club also set up a 36’x54’ G scale layout, an 8’ x 24’ On30 layout, and an 18’ x 24’ N scale layout. All of these layouts were located in the Young Building of the Big E complex in West Springfield, MA.
